Bio

Hi, my name is Ms. Kylie Ahern and I am excited to teach Strings at Northland Preparatory Academy. This will be my fourth year teaching Strings at NPA.

I began my studies on violin at the age of four in Oklahoma. I earned my Bachelor of Music degree in Violin Performance from Oklahoma State University in 2013, where I studied violin and viola with Dr. Laura Talbott. During my time at OSU, I was concertmaster of the Oklahoma State Symphony Orchestra and a member of Frontiers New Music Ensemble.

I graduated from Northern Arizona University in 2016 with a Master’s degree in Suzuki Violin Pedagogy. I studied Suzuki pedagogy with Dr. Louise Scott and Dr. Karin Hallberg at NAU. I am currently the Suzuki Strings Coordinator at the NAU Community Music and Dance Academy, where I teach individual lessons, Suzuki group classes, and Music Mind Games.

I taught Suzuki Violin in a K-2 program at Marshall Elementary School in Flagstaff from 2014-2020. I currently play violin in the Flagstaff Symphony Orchestra and viola in the Skylight City String Quartet.

In my free time, I enjoy running, hiking, taking my dog Queso outside to explore Flagstaff, reading a good book, and going for a bike ride.
