Hola y Beinvenidos!!

Soy Sra. Van Atta,

I am VERY excited to to be a Spartan here at NPA, in the most beautiful city in Arizona!  I attended NAU for my Bachelors and Masters degrees so I have some history here in Flagstaff.

I am a highly qualified Spanish Teacher. I hold a Bachelors of Arts in Spanish and a Masters in Educational Leadership.  I also hold an Arizona Standard Certification in Spanish, with endorsements in Secondary English Immersion, Administration, and Career and Technical Education.

I have been teaching for more than 20 years in the valley in both a traditional school and online charter school environment.  I LOVE teaching. It is by far the second best career in the world, the first being a mom to my 11 year old daughter. She will be a Spartan this year when she comes to NPA for 6th grade.

I look forward to getting to know you all this year and learning about your dreams and goals and doing all I can to help you achieve them!

Description:

By the end of Spanish II, students will be able to communicate on a novice mid to novice high level, using present, future, and past tense verbs and common phrases to meet basic demands of Spanish communication. This course is designed to develop all five language skills: listening, speaking, reading, writing and cultural competence through authentic materials and those that are designed for second language learners. The goal of the Spanish II course is to develop a solid foundation for the ability to communicate in Spanish. A student’s background, aptitude, and application will determine the level of language proficiency acquired.


SUPPLIES for 2018-19 school year:



  • 1 1.5” or 2” three ring binder filed with lined paper (any size),

  • 1 package 8 tab dividers, pens and pencils for daily use.

Description:

This class is a Spanish immersion study hall for middle school students proficient in Spanish.


By the end of the year, students will be able to communicate on a novice high to intermediate mid level, using varying tenses such as present, future, and past. Student learners will  converse, interact and negotiate meaning in spoken, signed, or written conversations to share information, reactions,

feelings, and opinions, per the World Readiness Standards for Learning Languages. (www.actfl.org/publications/all/national-standards-foreign-language-education.)


This course is designed to develop all five language skills: listening, speaking, reading, writing and cultural competence through authentic materials and those that are designed for second language learners. The goal of the Spanish Study Skills course is to develop a solid foundation for the ability to communicate in Spanish. A student’s background, aptitude, and application will determine the level of language proficiency acquired.


Please come prepared daily with work from other classes. We will divide the class into 20 minutes of study hall and 20 minutes of Spanish immersion.


Class work will take precedents whenever needed but class will be held in Spanish.
