Born in San Antonio, Dr. Bruner has played the cello since age 9. Her college degrees are from the University of Kansas (Bachelor of Music in Cello Performance & Music Theory), Cleveland Institute of Music (Master of Music in Cello Performance) and University of Texas (Doctor of Musical Arts in Cello Performance).
After 19 seasons in the Austin Symphony, teaching and performing in central Texas, Dr. Bruner and her husband David moved to Flagstaff in 1997. She taught at NAU for 8 years, and has been part of the NPA music faculty since 2005. She still plays regularly with the Flagstaff Symphony, and enjoys reading and spending time with her 15-year-old Yorkie.
Formerly known as “Symphonic Strings”, this class brings together the best of NPA’s fine string players. This group performs and competes locally, statewide, and (in even-numbered years) at Festival events in California.

This is a class made up of 7th graders and older who have played a bowed stringed instrument for at least one year. Our goal here is to solidify and expand technique and music reading, to prepare members of this class for the top group, Chamber Strings.
This class is for sixth graders who play — or would like to learn to play — a bowed string instrument.
