Applying for Enrollment at NPA
Thank you for your interest in Northland Preparatory Academy. We are pleased that you are considering NPA for your child’s education. As a public charter school, NPA carefully follows state laws regarding enrollment (A.R.S. 15-184). When the number of applicants for a given grade level exceeds the available spaces, state law calls for a lottery to determine which applicants may enroll. State charter school law grants preference to siblings of current students, and allows charter schools to grant preference to children of staff members and governing board members.
Open Enrollment Period and Enrollment Preview Sessions
Northland Preparatory Academy’s (NPA’s) admissions policy states that the Open Enrollment Period shall be the second Friday in November through the second Friday in January. Shortly after the Open Enrollment Period closes, the lotteries at each grade level are conducted, students who are eligible to enroll are notified, and waiting lists are established. This year’s pre-lottery application deadline is January 12th, 2018.
Any application packets received after the Open Enrollment Period closes will not be part of the lotteries but will instead be placed at the bottom of the waiting lists in the order they were received.
Those seeing this message after January 2018 are encouraged to submit post-lottery applications. In some years at some grade levels (generally upper grades when school-to-school mobility is lesser) we have shorter wait lists, so those interested in NPA should not necessarily assume that missing the January application deadline completely eliminates one’s chances of enrolling.
Application packets will be given out to parents as they attend one of three Preview Sessions. The Preview Sessions are intended to familiarize families with the school prior to applying. The sessions will outline NPA’s 6th-12th grade program including curriculum, expectations for academics and student behavior as well as differences between public charter schools and traditional public schools. Our goal is to make prospective applicants aware of the strengths as well as weaknesses of our program before they apply. Families are only required to attend one of the three Preview Sessions. Families who will be Arizona residents by the time of enrollment but live at great distance from Flagstaff should inquire with the school regarding the preview session requirement.
The Enrollment Preview Sessions for parents interested in enrollment for the 2018-19 school year will be held as follows:
Saturday, November 4, 2017 from 9:30am until approximately 11:00am
Saturday, December 2, 2017 from 9:30am until approximately 11:00am
Tuesday, January 9, 2018 from 6:30pm until approximately 8:00pm[Dates for Fall 2018 Preview Sessions for those interested in enrolling for 2019-20 have not yet been set. They typically follow the same pattern as above — first Saturday in November, first Saturday in December, and second Tuesday in January. Check back as Fall 2018 approaches.]
Parents who arrive more than 15 minutes late to the sessions will not be admitted to the session and will need to return for another preview session date. Please budget your time so as to arrive on time. Parking is available on campus (enter our campus via the driveway on Soliere Ave. just down from 4th Street) and overflow parking is available if necessary in the back of Sinagua Middle School’s parking lot at the top of Mustang Drive. See map here. Please do not park in the FUSD Administration building’s lot.
Please feel free to call us at 214-8776 if you have any questions. See you at a session!
